thousand people attended a tribute to him on saturday. firefighters from stations across the region gathered to pay their respects to the fallen hero. close friends and colleagues remember mark falkenhan as the guy with the big smile who always went above and beyond. a husband and father of two sons, his loved ones comforted each other outside of the viewing. fellow firefighters carried in posters and fallkenhan's helmet, both reminders of his legacy. >> we take some solace in knowing that mark did not die alone in that apartment fire. that his last act on earth was risking his life to save someone else. mark spent his entire life -- his adult life in public service. and we have some peace knowing that his impact on this world will be felt for many more years. >> mark's funeral will be at 11:00 this morning here at the cathedral of mary our queen, followed by his interment at the dulaney valley memorial

gardens. kim dacey, wbal-tv 11 news. >> thank you. firefighters had their hands full overnight putting in a fire in an east baltimore church. a car crashed into the side of the gospel church in the 2500 block of east oliver street. it is not clear if the car was already on fire when a crash. there was nobody found inside the church. later today, a building inspector will determine if the church is structurally sound. police are investigating a deadly shooting in east baltimore. officers arrived at east-street just before 11:00 p.m. last night. that is near the johns hopkins hospit. they found a man sitting behind the wheel of a spherical. he had been shot. he died. no arrests have been made. >> no rest in the case of a

shooting that claimed the life of a youth sports coach. harry hicks was gunned down saturday afternoon. police are just as confused as those who knew him as to why anybody would kill the popular mentor and father. >> it was shocking. i never would think something like this would happen. he was the coolest person you could ever know. he had a wife and kids and tried to do right in the community. >> anyone with information should call baltimore city police. >> the animal cruelty trial for two brothers accused of setting a pit bull on fire is set to begin today. was rescued by later had to be euthanized. >> new developments in the case of ed reed's missing brother

brian. a dive team thought they found the missing body in a river. they went back but the body was gone. his family is still holding out hope for closure. >> we just needed some closure. we wanted to know if you went in the water. we wanted to retrieve him and get him back home and to lay him to rest peacefully. >> brian reed reportedly jumped into the river while running from police. >> president obama delivers his second state of the union address tuesday night. he is expected to touch on elections and the economy and the war. kate amara joins us live with more on the story. hello. >> i am a good. thank you. tonight, -- tomorrow night, some ideas and that you can look for in the president's speech -- spending cuts and infrastructure investment.

[cheers] president obama's second state of the union speech will focus on the economy. >> my number one focus is going to be making sure that we are competitive, that we are growing, and we are creating jobs, not just now but well into the future. >> in a video emailed to supporters, the president outlined his message -- cut spending, invest in job creation. >> we're also going to have to deal with our deficits and our debt in a responsible way. and we've got to reform government so that it's leaner and smarter for the 21st century. >> republicans question if the president will go far enough. >> i am looking forward to the president and his remarks that perhaps really can go about trying to cut spending in washington. >> i think he will talk some about spending cuts. i don't know about enough. >> they're tired of the partisanship and the shouting -- >> in a show of political unity and in a break with tradition, dozens of republicans and democrats have agreed to sit together tuesday night. but republicans are making it clear they still disagree with the president's agenda.

in essex. have a second accident on southbound 702. northbound 702 involves an overturned vehicles. you have to get off at the beltway there and get back on. that will take you some extra time this morning. an accident lutherville at seminary avenue. southbound hanover pike just passed through 30, all lanes are closed in the southbound direction because of an accident. westminster, watch for some debris in the road. volume is picking up on the north and west side. this is a look at the west side at liberty road. delays are just starting to develop. 95 north of white marsh, still moving well ones to be closer to the beltway. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> thank you.

a police precinct in detroit is lined with yellow crime scene tape after three officers were shot. the gunman opened fire inside the detroit police precinct yesterday afternoon. it appears the officers did not suffer life-threatening injuries. a motive and the shooters identity have not been released. jared loughner will be arranged in phoenix later today. he will enter a plea on the federal charges. it seems as mental state will be an issue during the case. officials are looking to see if he is competent enough to stand trial. if you commute to washington, the mta is warning of possible delays because of the march for life rally in washington. today is the 30th anniversary of the roe vs. wade case which

legalized abortion. there will be thousands of demonstrators holding a relic of the national mall. the dissidents will march to the u.s. supreme court building. >> if you have not done your biggio bowl, you may be in for quite a shock. -- if you have not gotten your bg&e bill, you may be in for quite a shock. the bad news does not stop. gas prices are on the rise. the average price is up nearly 3 cents over the past two weeks. analysts say it to hold steady. this is almost 39 cents above the price this time last year. for maryland drivers, stars are paying about $3.80 a gallon.

postal service. it will start closing as many as 2000 postal offices nationwide. another 16,000 are under review. those 16,000 make up about half of the existing post offices around the country. consolation energy group will start selling electricity in march. the utility market will be the first competitor to commonwealth edison since illinois deregulated their market 12 years ago. as for stocks, the nasdaq showed weakness on friday. the bloomberg maryland index was lower. toyota still the largest automaker in the world for a third year. demand for its cars picked up around the world. this outweighed a decline for cars. general motors came in it in second place. that is business. i'm jane king.

a service of this weekend. united in solidarity, firefighters from stations all over the area gathered saturday to pay their respects to a fallen hero -- mark falkenhan, the guy with the big smile, who always went above and beyond. >> mark's just a great guy. i mean, he's a family man. he is a firefighter's firefighter. he is just skilled in all of the disciplines. mark's a firefighter, a paramedic, a rescue specialist, a diver, an instructor. >> while loved ones comforted each other outside of the viewing, fellow firefighters carried in posters and falkenhan's helmet, both reminders of his legacy. the 43-year-old volunteer firefighter died wednesday night while responding to a fire at a towson apartment complex in parkville. >> two beautiful young men lost a father. and a beautiful woman lost a husband. these men standing behind me from the lutherville volunteer fire company lost one of their best. >> we take some solace in knowing that mark did not die alone in that apartment fire.
